veneration

i've always loved the rain
you're from southern california.
by default, aren't you supposed to love the sun?
i don't recall ever enjoying the sun.
what? who doesn't enjoy clear skies?
let me guess, you don't like the beach other..
i'd hate to lie but i wouldn't want to disappoint you twice.

[ i was quite enjoying the silence, but he spoke, as most humans do. ]

you look happier today.
yeah, i really love the rain.
what about the rain do you love?
the major inconvenience it is for daily commuters?
if having to use an umbrella is considered a major inconvenience to you, you live a very privileged life.
i do, as do you.
agreed.

i like that the rain arouses senses.
the smell of wet concrete,
the sound of pitter-patters,
the sprinkles that the wind inevitably dusts my face with.
and oh, the taste! just kidding. that one's a bit of a stretch.

you've done an injustice to my ode to rain and its majesties.
majesties? rain is just recycled water.
all water is recycled. anything in liquid form is a recycled form of something, and every living matter needs it to survive.
are you sure about that?
i guess some forms of bacteria don't need liquid to survive, but they're not really living. they're just alive.
are you sure about that?
are we speaking on figurative or literal terms?
we're diving too deep into this discussion about single-celled organisms.
bacteria is ubiquitous. omnipresent.
let it go.

[ i was embarrassed, characterizing bacteria with godlike qualities.
i needed to change the subject. quick. ]

more seriously, i love the rain because it's a reminder that the universe will take care of me. plants don't demand feed-- they don't have any sort of bandwidth to comprehend what they'd need to survive, but they are granted life freely. also, california is in a drought, but look..
*points to nearby park* an abundance of greenery! life!
yes, plants are survivors despite how real their struggle is.

sometimes i feel like i'm a weed. i sort of don't belong anywhere and if tested, i'd be easily uprooted. if disposed of, absence would probably go unnoticed. regardless of my irrelevance in the general landscaping of where i'm plotted, i'm thriving in a dire situations. i'm given what i need, both good and bad, whether nourishment or a lesson, wanted or not.

hmm..
i like the rain a little more than i did 5 minutes ago.

drip, trot. drip, trot.
