christine of then, the hoarder.
..
hoarders hold on tightly to all things, carefully defending the sanctity of rubbish. more often than not, they deny the existence of a problem. they live in cramped corners and can't function without having to step over, on, or into things that don't belong. hoarders are blockaded from clear paths, because they choose to surround themselves with things that they can't recall the origin or importance of. hoarders hold on for themselves.
..
i held onto things (and people) i swore i might one day want, despite knowing full well i would never need it (or them) again. i held on for purely sentiment's sake, but "sentimental value" became a label i placed on trash to convince myself of nonexistent characteristics of treasure.
..
the upcoming christine of now and later, the collector.
..
collectors seek after things of value. even with acquired knowledge, they don't act impulsively to own. they appraise the item before investing: authenticity, rarity, value. once added to their collection, they display curations meaningfully for themselves alongside like minded aficionados to appreciate. a collector shares with the chosen to enjoy.
..
hold onto things that need polishing and tend what seems damaged to the public eye. store properly and revel knowing that the ones who stay, post falling into your array of objet d'art, are ones who know (and are) better.
..
i don't want a collector's piece, i want a collector's palace.
